Stud Wall Construction

Stud walls are an essential part of loft conversions and home renovations. They allow you to create new rooms, divide spaces, and run electrical or plumbing services without affecting the main structure of your home.

What Is a Stud Wall?

A stud wall is a lightweight timber-framed wall covered with plasterboard. It is not load-bearing but provides structure for interior layout changes.

How Stud Walls Are Built
  • Setting out the frame
Accurate measurements ensure straight, true walls.
  • Installing the soleplate and headplate
These horizontal timbers form the top and bottom of the frame.
  • Adding vertical studs
Studs are spaced evenly, usually 400mm or 600mm apart.
  • Installing noggins
These horizontal supports strengthen the frame.
  • Insulation and services
Acoustic insulation is added, and electricians/plumbers run cables or pipes.
  • Plasterboarding and finishing
The wall is boarded, taped, plastered, and ready for painting.
